Rangely is just 20 miles southeast of Dinosaur National Monument on the Dinosaur Diamond National Scenic Byway and is center to one of the last areas of the West explored by European settlers.
Nestled in the lower White River Valley at the heart of the Canyon Pintado National Historic District, the community boasts access to acres of green forests areas, riddled with wildlife, high desert plateaus and plunging canyons marked with petroglyphs left by the native Fremont and Ute civilizations.
Wildlife enthusiasts will prime deer and elk country which is open to hunting, photography and viewing. Much of this is public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW). See wild horses, deer, elk, antelope, migratory birds, coyotes, eagles, hawks and prairie dogs. There are nearby mountain streams with beaver dams, a wealth of bird life and small mammals, and thousands of square miles of public lands to explore.

Colorado is home to the largest elk population in the world, and our hunting area is famous for its extraordinary elk, deer, and antelope hunting.
Hunting plays a major part in the economy in all of Colorado, but in particular in northwest Colorado. Rangely is located in Rio Blanco County with Moffat and Routt counties nearby. Northwest Colorado has plentiful elk, mule deer and antelope herds. the region attracts approximately 28,000 hunters annually.
Licenses for deer and elk in some cases are applied for and drawn... for the lucky ones. Resident and non-resident hunters alike must apply for deer tags and the area you wish to hunt must be specified.
