Department Overview
Gas Department
The Town of Rangely Gas Department is somewhat unique compared to other natural gas companies, in that there are only a few municipalities that operate their own gas company in Colorado.
Over the years our community has received many benefits that a privately owned gas company may not have been able to provide, especially in the areas of customer service and overall price paid for gas. The Town Council can react to market changes much more quickly than a company that must seek approval form the Public Utility Commission to adjust rates.
Personalized service, quick response to calls, numerous services provided at minimal or no cost, and scheduled main/service replacement at no cost to the homeowner are additional benefits we have. Generous rebates have been received by many of our customers when conversions from another energy source to natural gas occurred.

The Town of Rangely Utilities Department is responsible for billing, collecting and processing all utility accounts.
These utility accounts include charges for:
Gas
Water
Sewage / Wastewater
In 2004, Several members of the community along with the town offices formed a committee to develop a comprehensive plan designed to articulate a vision of how Rangely can manage and promote future changes in the community that will sustain existing features of value and enhance the overall quality of the community for its citizens over the next 20-years (2004-2024).
This department is charged with implementing the vision of the comprehensive plan and to identify where that vision needs to revisited as the future reveals itself.
Administration
Police Department
The Administration Department includes the positions of Town Manager and Assistant to Town Manager/Town Clerk. Administration oversees the town's functions, and implements goals and objectives established by the Town Council.
Administration also performs the Council election functions and the approval of Town Clerk and Treasurer roles. All recruitment, medical exams, and labor relations costs for the Town are included in the Administration budget.
The Department is lead by Chief Vincent Wilczek who handles most all of the administrative and some operational duties for the Department. Civilian personnel are assigned to dispatch, records/clerical, and other administrative duties as deemed necessary by the Chief. All sworn personnel are assigned primarily to patrol though certain Officers possess special skills and/or instructor positions such as Firearms and less-lethal equipment and related training.
Public Works
Water / Sanitation
The Department of Public Works provides the services that touch the community everyday. Every day the quality of life for the people who live and work in Rangely, is enhanced by the activities and services provided by the Public Works
The department is responsible for operating and maintaining the town's facilities and equipment in a manner meeting all applicable Federal, State and Local standards. These Standards ensure appropriate quality and quantity of water to the Rangely community and collects and disposes of wastewater in a manner governed by further Federal, State and Local standards.
Maintenance Department
The maintenance department performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled custodial and maintenance tasks in public buildings and grounds. the departments responsibilities includes:
- organization, supervision of custodial maintenance repairs of all kinds, including plumbing
- maintains or adjusts heating, cooling and ventilation in public buildings
- does preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment
- maintains grounds, including lawns, landscaping, sidewalks and entranceways; downtown tree and flower plantings, watering and maintenance.
- conducts regular repair and maintenance of White River Village and Town Hall
- is responsible for the mosquito abatement spraying in summer.
- reviews and makes recommendations on plans for maintenance and ground projects
- orders supplies for the above tasks
