1. How old does my child have to be to use a booster seat or no longer be required to use a booster seat and use the regular seat belt?
Colorado State Law states the following:

A child younger than 1 yr. and less than 20 lbs. must be in a rear-facing infant seat.
A child 1 through 3 yrs. and 20-40 lbs. must be in a forward-facing child safety seat.
A child 4 through 5 yrs. and less than 55" tall must be in a booster seat.
A child 6 through 15 yrs. and 55" or more tall must be in a seat belt.

2. When can I pick up a copy of my traffic accident report and how much does it cost?

Reports can be picked up in 10 days from date of incident and the cost is $2.50.

3. Are motorized scooters and similar devices legal?

Motorized scooters, golf carts and similar vehicles fall under the Town of Rangely Municipal Code10.14. In essence, no off-highway vehicle:
Shall be operated on the public streets, roads, and alleys within the Town except in accordance with the following
Shall not be operated at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under existing conditions, and in no event greater than 10mph
Operator must be at least 11 years old or accompanied by an adult (18 or over)
Operated in a manner indicating either wanton or willful disregard to safety of persons or property is deemed guilty of reckless operation.
Operated in a careless and imprudent manner, without due regard for width, grade, curves, corners, traffic or pedestrians is deemed guilty of careless operation
Operated as close to white line as possible if no shoulder exists
Multiple riders must ride single file and observe all traffic control devices and model traffic codes.
Must take as direct a route as possible to a BLM area, educational activity or employment. (as approved by Chief of Police)
Shall not be operated between sunset and sunrise
Must be equipped with brakes, muffler, spark arrester conforming to standards.
Failure to comply or violate provisions as set out in municipal code may be punished by fine or imprisonment.

4. What are the noise limits in town?

The noise limits in town are 65 decibels from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm and 55 decibels from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am.

5. How do I get to the Police Department?

The Police Department is located in the Rangely Town Hall at 209 East Main St. The entrance is from the laneway to the side of Town Hall and then to the Communications center window. The Police department can also be accessed through the main entrance via the counter opposite the town clerk counter heading down the hall towards Main St

6. Where do I pay for a penalty assessment ticket that I received from the Rangely Police?

Penalty assessment tickets can in Rangely will be either Municipal or County. Municipal can be paid at Rangely Town Hall at the Utility Clerk Desk, which is located through the main lobby, first window on the Left. County must be paid to the County Court offices in either Rangely (during Business Hours) or through the Meeker Court House

7. Can I get papers notarized at the Police Department?

Yes, the police department dispatchers are notaries and several of the employees in the Town Hall Offices are also notaries. Dispatch personnel may ask for a picture ID prior to notarizing your request. During Town business hours, If you have something that needs notarized and the dispatch center is busy, the town office may be able to help you.

8. What is the surcharge on my citation?

The surcharge is 30% of the total fine. These monies go to the Rangely Victims Services Fund.

9. What is the Town of Rangely’s Victims Services Fund?

This is a fund set up to help provide compensation to victims of crimes where no suspect is located. A 30% surcharge is added to all fines. These monies go to the Rangely Victims Services Fund.

10. How do I apply for Rangely’s Victims Assistance?

If you have been a victim of a crime within the Town of Rangely where no suspect is located and would like to apply for monetary assistance – Go to the Police Dept and ask to speak to a ‘Victim’s Advocate’, submit a letter that states your request and proof from your insurance company regarding your deductible. You may be eligible for compensation up to the amount of your insurance deductible.

11. Does Rangely have a curfew and if so, what are the times?

Yes, Rangely does have a curfew.
Curfew hours:
For juveniles (Under 18) - Sunday – Thursday, 10:00pm - Saturday, 11:00pm.
During Summer (after school is out) – every night, 11:00pm

12. Does Rangely have a leash law?

Yes, your dog has to be on a leash at all times when it is away from the premises of the owner or the person who is in control of the dog. The leash is not to be more than seven feet in length and made of material strong enough to restrain the dog.
The exception to the above is out around ‘Dragon’ where many residents allow their dogs to run.

13. Can my dog be in the parks?

Yes!!. In all the parks of Rangely leash’s are required.

14. Does my dog need a license and where do I purchase it?

Yes, all dogs (6 months or older) that live in the town limits need a Rangely license. The License tags are provided free of charge by the Police Department. Residents must show a current rabies certificate before a license is issued

15. What are the laws on dog feces?

You are required to pick up any feces that your dog makes on public property and or private property unless the dog is at home. If you don’t pick it up you can receive a nuisance dog citation.

16. What can I do about barking dogs?

Call Police Department (675-8467) and give us as much information you can about where the dog lives when it barks, etc… We will contact the owner about the problem and if the problem is not resolved, the owner can get a nuisance dog citation.

17. What is considered a vicious dog?

A vicious dog is a dog that inflicts unprovoked bites or attacks on human beings or other animals or acts without provocation towards any person in a terrorizing or menacing manner.

18. Where is the Animal Shelter?

The Rangely Police department oversees the Animal Shelter located 407 Bronco Road. The animal shelter is maintained by a team of part-time employees. If you need to deliver, pickup, view or wish to adopt a pet then it is best to call the police department (675-8467) and speak with the dispatcher to arrange for an officer or an employee to meet at the shelter. Shelter info - also call shelter coordinator - 629-1314.

19. What do you do about abandoned vehicles?

An abandon vehicle is any vehicle that is no longer able to move from place to place under its own power. A vehicle that has been parked on the public street or right of way for more than 30 days or doesn’t have valid license plates is considered abandoned. After 30 days we red tag the vehicles and tow them as soon as we can.

20. Do we have a weed ordinance?

Yes, it states weeds that grow upon your property and alongside your property line and public right-of way are your responsibility. It is unlawful for weeds to grow in excess of ten inches and after cut need to be removed within 48 hours.

21. What is the law regarding possession of an open container?

Possession of Open Container:
It is unlawful for any person to have in his possession any open container of malt, vinous or spirituous liquor as defined by CRS 12-47-102, as amended, or any fermented malt beverage as defined by CRS 12-46-102 within the town, in on or about any public sidewalk, street, alley, road, highway, public school building or grounds, park or other public place including within an automobile on a public street.
